Whistle Blow Any Dubious Act, We’ll Protect You, VC assures staff

The Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of National Open University (NOUN) has commenced a week-long sensitization of staff of the university to whistle blow nefarious action in order to further sanitize the system.

During their appointment to the Directorates of ICT, Media and Publicity and the MIS, ACTU urged the staff to whistle blow any corrupt tendencies, bullying or intimidation to authorities.
The sensitization, which according to ACTU Head, Mr. Ifeanyi Ikenze, was to sensitize the departments of its activities and to encourage whistle blowing especially when such actions are done in good faith.

Ikenze added that the unit is thinking of a reward system subject to the approval of management to encourage staff who genuinely will whistle blow to correct any abnormally in the system for improved service delivery.

Speaking at the sensitization Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu said ACTU was created to protect staff in carrying out their duties without fear of any intimidation.

“If you see anything wrong please tell us, we’ll protect you, don’t just report anyone for the purpose of making life difficult for that person.”

“There are multiple channels where you can raise your concerns: Head of Department, ACTU, University Management or the EFCC and he university will be there to act. If there is any case of corruption, just tell us and we will expose It” Adamu implored the staff.

Commenting on the adoption of the policy, he said “Whistle blowing is very important. If there is anyone who is extorting or taking advantage of you, just blow the whistle and we will protect you,” Adamu assured.
