In line with the fast changing world that is driven by innovation, technology and highly competitive business environment, the demands and expectations of the 21st century world of work are dynamic and so are the workplace skills requirements for employees to function. Employers of labour are constantly in search of potential employees with contemporary and relevant skills that can add value to their enterprise endeavours.



The prevailing employability challenge among young people is a phenomenon that must be addressed and the need for government and relevant stakeholders to harness, nurture and equip the nation’s critical asset with contemporary and relevant skills and to engage their comparative demographic advantage, which finds expression in numerical strength, creative ingenuity, resilience and raw energy for the benefit of the nation.



Young people (fresh and unemployed graduates) lack these emerging and contemporary workplace skills hence the prevailing employability challenge among young people. This gap has become a phenomenon that has thrown critical concerns to employers of labour.



The National Bureau of Statistics report of September, 2016 revealed that 13.5 million youth of employable age are currently unemployable. It is to address this gap that the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Centre for Human Resource Development (CHRD) is strategically partnering with the Nigerian Youth Chamber of Commerce (NYCC) as the Organized Private Sector (OPS) platform and Business Membership Organization (BMO) for young people to deliver the National Employability Skills Development and Internship Programme for fresh and unemployed graduates in Nigeria to prepare and equip them with the critical relevant workplace skills that are required in the 21st century.



ABOUT NESDIP



National Employability Skills Development and Internship Programme (NESDIP) is developed by the Nigerian Youth Chamber of Commerce, and the National Open University of Nigeria to provide employability training and internship opportunity for fresh and unemployed graduates.



NESDIP is an innovative critical human capital development and work-ready initiative designed to adequately address the deficit of labour requirement occasioned by the prevailing workplace skills gap. The programme will equip young people with contemporary and relevant skills not only to enable them unlock their innate potentials but to also to provide opportunity for them to express themselves, productively engage and compete in the fast changing 21st century.





NESDIP OBJECTIVE



The main objective of NESDIP as an intervention programme is to build a critical mass of employable and work ready human resources for national development thereby reducing the escalating rate of unemployment.



NESDIP TRAINING PROGRAMME



The training components of NESDIP are drawn from globally acknowledge 21st century workplace skill designed to be thought provoking, participatory and interactive sessions delivered in a 21 days comprehensive engagement that provides interns with the opportunity for experiential and practical learning exercise.



The National Employability Skills Development and Internship Programme is a nationwide sustainable employability training and capacity building programme to be delivered by adopting the use of blended experiential learning activities and delivery modes.



Faculty for NESDIP is drawn from the organized private sector, certified members of professional organizations with cognate experience in human resource headhunting, training, recruitment and management as well as employers of labour to deliver and share practical workplace experience along the lines of their expectations from employees/potential employees.

11. How much is the cost of participating in NESDIP?



1. Interns registration form is N1,000.00 (One thousand Naira) only



2. Training Fee is N35,000.00 (Thirty five thousand Naira) only 



12. Does NESDIP have provision for a continuous engagement programme for interns?

Answer:

There will a continuous interface and interactive session between the interns and the programme administrators to assess the interns performance on the job, identify and address gaps as well as provide them with the opportunity for share experiences, ask questions and get appropriate answers on gray areas of concerns to them.



13. What about sponsorship and how can Corporate and Development Organization support NESDIP?



Answer:



NESDIP is open for sponsorship by Corporate Organizations as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes and Intervention from Development Organizations to subsidize the cost of training for participating and interested interns. The idea is to provide equal opportunity for a critical mass of graduates participate and benefit from NESDIP.

NESDIP Employability and Career Fair (ECF) is the biggest national interface between employers of labour and job seekers,



The National Employability and Career Fair is organized in line with global best practices in organizing job fairs that provides opportunity for employers of labour to headhunt potential employees, interview and recruit employees seeking for employment.



NESDIP Employability and Career Fair (ECF) holds twice a year in major cities of the six (6) geo-political zones to provide the enabling environment and opportunity for employment seekers to access employment opportunities that they may never know exist in some organizations as well as provide opportunity for employers of labour to headhunt potential employees from a common pool.



2. NATIONAL EMPLOYABILITY AND CAREER BOOTHCAMP (EC-BOOTHCAMP)



The National Employability and Career Boothcamp (EC-Boothcamp) is an inspirational and motivational career counseling, mentorship and development support programme for young people seeking for ways to enhance or grow their careers.



NESDIP Employability and Career Boothcamp (EC-Boothcamp) holds every summer for young people seeking for employment opportunity but are having challenges or simply does not know what to do, under-employed people seeking for job transition options or people who are simply not satisfied with their present jobs and are seeking to explore career options in other sectors.



Employability and Career Boothcamp (EC-Boothcamp) simulates an ideal workplace and how to navigate through everyday workplace challenges.



3. NATIONAL EMPLOYABILITY CONFERENCE (NEC)



NESDIP National Employability Conference (NEC) is an annual convergence of relevant stakeholders in the employment space to deliberate and share ideas on emerging concepts and trends on employability and the workplace, explore and determine how to develop manpower to respond to the demands of the emerging trends as well as assess how it translates to impact on the national economy.
