'Some Conventional Universities Now Use NOUN Course Materials In Their Programmes'

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Sokoto state centre, has registered 1, 890 students for the 2017/2018 session.

The Director of the centre, Mr Oladapo Olusegun disclosed this in an interview with NIGERIA NEWS in Sokoto on Tuesday.

He said 740 of the students registered for examinations.

He noted that NOUN had helped in no small measure in reviving education by providing the opportunity for excellent learning in Nigeria.

He said that some students had migrated from the conventional universities to NOUN.

According to him, some conventional universities now use NOUN course materials in their programmes.

Olusegun said that the plan by some conventional universities to start open and distance learning education “was an admittance of lapses in their programmes.”

He said that the plan did not pose any threat to NOUN, saying that “we are the original owners of open and distance learning.”

The NOUN director further said that students population in the centre had increased by 30 per cent since their relocation to the new centre.

He identified the lack of a permanent site as a major challenge facing the centre and appealed for the state government ‘s intervention.

He also urged the people of the state, especially civil servants, to take advantage of the presence of the centre to further their education.
