NUC Approves NTI Affiliation With NOUN Over Degree Programmes


The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval to the National Teachers Institute (NTI) to run its degree programmes in affiliation with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

The approval will enable enlisted students of the NTI degree programmes and other stakeholders of the institute to pursue their career without any hitch.

NOUN Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdalla Uba Adamu stated this at the 3rd matriculation ceremony of the institute held in FCT and other centres nationwide.
“I wish to allay the fears entertained by both students and other critical stakeholders of NTI programmes that the NUC has final approved NTI affiliation for the degree Programme with the NOUN,” the VC said.

Professor Adamu who was represented by the Director Academic Planning (DAP), Professor Nebath Tanglang at the FCT event, also stated that as part of the requirements for the approval of the affiliation of the degree programmes, the Institute is required to introduce e-learning and e-tutoring mechanisms in her distance learning operations.
“I was made to understand that the institute has gone far in this direction, NOUN is willing to lend a helping hand to ensure that this requirement is met within the shortest time possible” he stated.

NOUN, he said, is working with the NTI Kaduna to upload all course materials for degree programmes unto the Institute’s website for students to access easily, in order to assist in addressing the attendant delays in the delivery of the course materials to the students at the study centres.
He further urged the matriculating students to strive and make their studies a rewarding one, adding that self-discipline holds the key to success in distance education programme.

The Director General of the institute, Professor Garba Dahuwa Azare, represented by director, Field Operations, Students Services (FOSS), Dr Dele Yahaya, admonished the students to pursue their academic career by making wise use of their timing and create ample time for their studies as there is no short cut in education.

Professor Azare emphasized that the Institution is an agency of the Federal Ministry of Education established to train, retrain and certify teacher in Nigeria and committed to quality.
“NTI is the foremost Open and Distance Learning Institution in Nigeria committed to making significant impact in promoting teacher education in the country.

“All our programmes are adequately accredited and all processes of affiliation to NOUN have been concluded with the approval of NUC. You therefore have nothing to fear in enlisting with the institute to undergo any programme,” he stated.
It will be recalled that since the inception of the institution in 2015, it was the 2017 set that become the first from the institute to be awarded certificate duly signed from NOUN with a total of 54 students at the Abuja centre.
